Job Description: The Transport Planner role at A&D Logistics involves managing the cost-effective control of a fleet of over 80 vehicles while ensuring high levels of customer service. The position requires effective communication and collaboration within a fast-paced traffic office environment, handling both container transport and general haulage. The ideal candidate will demonstrate initiative, problem-solving skills, and a strong understanding of transport regulations. Responsibilities include planning transport movements, supporting drivers, and maintaining compliance records.
Key Responsibilities:
- Plan, allocate and monitor transport movements of both containers and curtains.
- Plan the following day’s movements and driver allocations, ensuring clear communication of next day start times and instructions to all drivers.
- Act as first line support for drivers, providing instructions, resolving issues and ensuring compliance with road transport regulations.
- Liaise with ports, rail terminals and customers to confirm bookings, releases, and resolve any access or loading/unloading issues.
- Monitor vehicle and driver locations using transport management systems / GPS tracking.
- Ensure driver hours and rest periods comply with WTD regulations.
- Respond to delays, breakdowns and route changes in real time to maintain service levels.
- Carry out a daily handover with the dayshift team at start and end of your shift.
- Communicate internally and with customers, ensuring that information is with the right people at the right time.
- Maintain records for compliance, including PODs, job statuses, and driver communications.
- Support health & safety, vehicle maintenance and risk management.
- Carry out other administrative tasks such as processing driver timesheets and POD filing.
- Liaise with other departments including our workshop, warehouse and container depot team to ensure efficient operations throughout the business.
- Adhere to all company policies and procedures.
Skills Required:
- Experience in a transport or logistics transport office.
- Good knowledge of UK road transport regulations, driver hours, and container handling processes.
- Strong problem-solving and decision-making abilities.
- Excellent communication skills – both written and verbal.
- Proficient in transport management systems and Microsoft Office.
- Good geographical knowledge.
- Highly organised with attention to detail and a proactive approach to issue resolution.
- Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities.
- CPC qualification is advantageous.
- Experience working with VBS systems.
