Software Test Engineer

£45.47/hourly PAYE; up to £60/hourly through Umbrella rate

37 hours a week

The UK's trusted Ministry of Defence partner, MBDA, are looking for an experienced Software Test Engineer to be part of a team that is starting an exciting phase of transforming the way we develop and deliver software, putting our engineers at the heart of this transformation whilst developing software that facilitates testing across the whole of the MBDA UK product portfolio.

As a Software Test Engineer, the successful candidate will be part of a multi-disciplined, dynamic, focused, and agile team of around 50 engineers specialising in all aspects of Test Solution design, including hardware, software, and embedded real-time systems. What we're looking for:

• Previous software engineering experience in the development of test solutions and experience in Test Driven Development within a software engineering context and comfortable with practices like pair programming and lightweight design modelling (Essential)
• Strong ability to write software in C / C++; experience with Ada, C# and scripting languages would be an advantage to our future strategy. (Essential)
• Proven experience working with tools such as Lab Windows CVI or Test stand would be an advantage.
• Strong understanding of what is required to create high-quality software and the ability to support quality practices and superior understanding of automation, continuous integration and DevOps principles and practices
• Proven electronics measurement and debugging experience using equipment such as DVM's, Oscilloscopes and spectrum analysers
• Understanding of communications and serial interfaces such as TFTP, Ethernet, RS232, RS422, RS485, Modbus, CAN and 1553 buses
• Articulate the benefits of crucial software craftsmanship practices like unit testing and sound design
• You must be a UK national or citizen and resided in the U.K. for at least five years to be eligible for the role (SC clearance requirement)

• Designing, developing, and supporting Engineering based Test Equipment software to test world-leading complex missile systems and sub-components.

MBDA's relationship with the UK military spans back over 70 years. They have delivered countless landmarks in defence engineering, supplying vital defence capability to meet the needs of the armed forces over land, sea, and air.

This role is based at MBDA's headquarters in Stevenage which plays a key part in missiles operations. The site also offers excellent transportation links and boasts an onsite gym and coffee shop. Training and development are offered to all employees.
