Senior Infrastructure Engineer

Inside IR35

Contract Term:6 months

Location: Hybrid Blackpool or Newcastle

The Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) is responsible for welfare, pensions, and child maintenance policy.   As a Senior Infrastructure Engineer your main responsibilities would be: 

The purpose of the role is to provide consultancy and engineering support for database technologies to build up, refine and deliver the Department’s database automation, following industry-standard tools, technologies, and best practice.

It will involve trialling new technologies and assessing new functionality in existing technologies around security, monitoring, resilience, the software lifecycle, ongoing management, and technical documentation.

Responsibilities of the Senior Infrastructure Engineer

  • Identify and scope valuable pieces of work to advance Data Platforms product offerings in line with our Vision, Mission Statement and Business Plan(s)
  • Work well with other team members to deliver that value in a sustainable, organised and observable way
  • Develop and maintain a deep and well-rounded knowledge of database technologies and the methods of building and managing them
  • Maintain an open, innovative, and curious mindset about the work that we do and the way we interact with the rest of the department

You’ll have relevant experience in:

  • Knowledge of and experience with database technologies (particularly SQL Server)
  • Knowledge of and experience with public cloud technologies (particularly Azure)
  • Knowledge of and experience with developing Infrastructure as Code (particularly Ansible, Terraform and Git)
  • Knowledge of and experience with agile ways of working Preferred
  • Some knowledge of scripting technologies (particularly PowerShell and Python)
