Job Description: The Senior Early Years Practitioner role involves supervising a team of early learning and childcare practitioners to deliver high-quality, child-centered services in a nursery setting. The position requires a passion for Early Years provision and experience in the 1140-hour funded program. This temporary maternity cover position is based at Letham Mains Primary School in Haddington, Scotland, and includes working during school holidays. The role is set to commence on 11th August 2025 and will last until 7th August 2026.

Our nursery operates a 48 week model and is open between 8.15am and 5.45pm. The children attend nursery 2 allocated days a week (plus alternate Fridays) to access their entitlement to the Scottish Government funded 1140hrs of free Early Learning and Childcare.

Our Early Years Practitioners are motivated and enthusiastic, led by two Senior Early Years Practitioners and supported by the Depute and Head Teacher. We are looking for an experienced Senior Early Years Practitioner who is enthusiastic and passionate about Early Years provision, and who will continue to develop and encourage best practice in delivering this at a high standard. Experience and knowledge of 1140h provision would be an advantage.

Letham Mains Primary School is East Lothian Council's newest primary school, located to the west of Haddington. It opened in February 2021 and our roll is growing rapidly. Our nursery setting is bright and spacious, with lots of outdoor play opportunity - which our nursery pupils love. Secondments are welcome for this role.

Qualifications Job Requirements

You must be educated to HNC level in Early Education and Childcare or hold SNNB/HNC/SVQ3 qualifications in Childcare/Education or equivalent and be able to evidence additional learning and knowledge of current practice and legislation in relation to Early Learning and Childcare. Scottish Social Services Council SSSC registration is an essential requirement of this role. If you are appointed and are not already a member of the relevant section of the SSSC Register, you will be required to apply for registration within 3 months of your start date to ensure that you are registered within the required 6 months.
