Solicitor Equalities and Criminal Justice Division
Job Description
A temporary solicitor position has become available in the Scottish Government Equalities and Criminal Justice Division, specifically in the Equalities and Social Justice branch. The successful candidate will be responsible for advising policy clients and Ministers on legal equality and social justice issues, including new primary and secondary legislation, as well as litigation.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide legal advice on equality and social justice issues to policy clients and Ministers
- Work collaboratively with colleagues and stakeholders to effectively communicate complex legal issues
- Organise workload to manage risk and respond to competing priorities
Requirements
- A sound understanding of public and administrative law in Scotland, including confidence working with legislation
- Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to build collaborative working relationships
- Excellent communication skills to effectively communicate complex legal issues
- Experience of equality law and the Equality Act 2010, as well as social justice law including asylum issues and child poverty
Qualifications
- A Scottish qualified Solicitor with a valid practising certificate
- Experience working in public or administrative law
Contract Details
This is a temporary position starting in February 2024 and ending in December 2024, with the possibility of a further extension. The position is based in the Scottish Government Equalities and Criminal Justice Division, specifically in the Equalities and Social Justice branch.
