6 months Initally (Likely to be extended as there will be other projects to move across to if needed and the option to train up on other skills)
Base Location is Telford but role will be mostly remote with requirement to travel to site only occasionally
Must hold active SC clearance (BPSS checks will be carried out at vetting stage as standard for CHA roles)

We are heading up a recruitment drive for a global consultancy that require a SC Cleared IBM Mainframe Engineer to join them on a major government that's based remotely.

Software development activity across the full range of development life cycle; requirements gathering, analysis, design, coding/development, testing, implementation and live support. This may be within new systems development projects or enhancements and fixes to existing applications.

Mandatory Skills:

  • Provide Mainframe DB2 support for application development team and query support for customers.
  • Application development in a IBM Cobol environment
  • Proactive in nature, personal drive, enthusiasm, willingness to learn
  • Excellent communications skills including stakeholder management
  • Design solutions with understanding of the architecture and NFRs

  • A software engineering background with proven ability to rapidly learn and apply application development process, tools and programming/Scripting languages. Awareness of key SE engineering concepts and governance (design, development, config management and version control, quality control, continuous integration, release/deployment, documentation, built in supportability, built in maintainability, re-use and extensibility)
  • Specific experience of data solutions development addressing data extraction, transformation and load (ETL) processing and data analytics and reporting requirements.
  • Familiar with Agile software development principles and practices and experience of delivery as a member of an Agile Scrum team utilising Scrum methodology.
