The role itself will be working with children who live in the Caerphilly borough, who access education outside of normal schooling. This could be children who are too anxious to attend mainstream school, or display some challenging behaviour, or have been excluded, or have medical difficulties, or are in between settings (so have been pulled from mainstream and are awaiting an SEN school placement), any many more. The children are often Key Stage but we do get some Primary children referrals too and each case is unique, of which you will be given full background information on the child.
The children are either taught at home and/or remotely at present through Teams/ Zoom etc. Usual allocation of education hours are split between Monday and Friday, 2 hours per day. You will get paid 10% PPA time too. For the majority of the time, the work delivered is Maths and English, but creativity and innovativeness will be requited when delivering these lessons due to the different types of learners that these children are. Its also super important to engage them with their interests, to get the most out of them.
You will need to be an excellent communicator as you will be liaising with Caerphilly EOTAS department directly, as well as myself and the parents/guardians of the child, and sometimes external agencies like care homes/ police etc. You will also be trustworthy and empathetic the child needs to know you will not give up on them, and you will be there for them to help and support them through their education.
We have lots of children requiring tuition at the moment, and so you could do just pupils if you are looking for part time work, or you could do children if you are looking for full time work.
To be considered, you must have a QTS (Fe is accepted also) and experience of working with children with SEN.
