Role Overview
We require a Telephony Solutions Architect (Teams Voice) for our higher education client to be part of their strategy & architecture team where they are currently running a project to improve the telephony across the estate.
The scope of the project is to transition off Legacy on-premise telephony on to cloud telephony (Teams Voice). This includes all users, switchboard and contact centres. There are also non-voice elements which will to be solutioned off the Legacy.
The Legacy telephone platform is HiPath/Mitel and these are to be transferred to Microsoft Teams using SBC's Direct routing via Gamma. The new platform will also include analogue gateways, contact centre and switchboard technologies.
As the Cloud Telephony Solutions Architect you will work with the team on embedding telephony across the estate. You will need to help understand the current landscape and make recommendations on how best to evolve the current technology. The role will work closely with the team to analyse, architect, design, cost and plan solutions, ensuring successful implementation of technical solutions for Voice and Non-Voice telephony.
This role will report directly to the Strategy and Architecture Manager or a member of the current team, and will be responsible for ensuring alignment of their workstream to the rest of the P&OD transformation programme workstreams taking place.
This is an exciting role that will have the opportunity to help deliver a strategically aligned programme. The role will also have the opportunity to work with a number of highly skilled architects and help feed into the Architecture practice.
Responsibilities and essential skills & experience required:
As the Cloud Telephony Solution Architect you will works with other enterprise architects (eg business, data, security architects, etc.) to analyse enterprise business context (business strategy and trends), as well as change requirements in other enterprise architecture viewpoints (such as business, information and solution) to derive the future-state technology architecture.
Leads development of architectures for complex, enterprise-wide voice and non-voice telephony solutions, ensuring consistency with specified requirements agreed with both stakeholders inside and outside of IT Services.
Leads the analysis of the current technology environment to detect critical deficiencies, Legacy and technical debt and recommends solutions for improvement.
Drive digital innovation by leveraging innovative technologies and approaches to renovate, extend and transform the existing core technology base and IT estate.
Takes full responsibility for ensuring that architectures balance functional and non-functional (eg integration mapping, security and data privacy, etc.) requirements from across the business and collaborates with business analysts and business owners to validate requirements.
Establishes principles, standards and strategy for the selection of solution architecture technologies and takes responsibility for the strategy and methods used in implementing a solution architecture.
Manage the technical solution strategies, policies, standards and practices, ensuring that they are applied correctly and promotes consistency.
Leads system design activity for solution architecture components, including both high-level and low-level designs, in collaboration with suppliers and internal SMEs.
Takes responsibility for the technical integrity of solution designs, ensuring that reusable elements are recognised and work is not unnecessarily duplicated.
Provides emerging technology insight and expertise to contribute to the Client's medium and long-term technology strategy.
Define high-level migration plans to address the gaps between the future and current state, typically in sync with the IT budgeting or other capital planning processes.
Ensures that all changes are managed effectively and contributes to formal reviews throughout the project.
Provides continued architectural expertise as part of the deployment and early-life support of any solution components.
Advises on appropriate quality standards and quality control processes relating to solution architecture. Ensures that quality control activities (including testing and accessibility compliance) are carried out satisfactorily. Attends quality reviews as appropriate.
