This role will monitor the quality and efficiency of the Claims processes including - Group and Individual Claims Assessors. As processes and procedures are constantly evolving and changing, the jobholder must have an open and enquiring mind and be prepared to contribute and develop new ideas and processes.

  • The major focus of the job is the ongoing accuracy and efficiency of the claims process ensuring good customer outcomes whilst keeping the business safe. Regular audit reports will be produced with discussions and recommendations around process improvements and any necessary training.
  • Good interpersonal skills are essential for this role at all levels from Operations to Reinsurers and the Senior Leadership Team.
  • Product range is across Life, Critical Illness, Income Protection on Individual and Group business.

Key Responsibilities

  • To audit the Group and Individual claims process using agreed procedures and within set timescales. Mitigate risk where possible.
  • Report to Operational and Senior Management in addition to Reinsurers.
  • Feedback results of audit to support the development of claims philosophy and procedures.
  • Provide coaching, support and advice to CS Team Leaders and claims assessors based on the results of the audit. This may be either on an ad-hoc or more formal basis depending on the individual requirements.
  • Reinsurer Audits - Supporting Risk and Audit Manager with discussions on cases over phone/email and in face to face meetings.
  • Investigate Claims Risk Incidents, produce reports, and take agreed actions in line with Company Procedures using JIRA as an audit trail. Liaise with Reinsurers.
  • Assess Life, Critical Illness, TPD, TD, Income Protection and WOP when required within an agreed level of authority.
  • Work closely with other areas of the business to develop a thorough understanding of the business and contribute to "best practice" and doing what is right for our customers.

Principal Skills

  • Communication - Well developed and effective communicator both verbally and in writing, exhibiting good questioning and listening skills. Ability to apply the right level of detail.
  • Numerical - Ability to understand and interpret financial evidence and accounts. Ability to produce MI reports and to be able to interpret the underlying data.
  • Building Relationships - Interpersonal skills to enable effective communications and working relationships with internal and external customers/suppliers. Fosters good working relationships, listens and respects the contribution of others and demonstrates flexibility within the team.
  • Managing self - A demonstrable 'can-do' attitude with the ability to pro-actively manage workload and prioritise tasks to ensure service standards are met. Demonstrate personal commitment, acting with integrity displaying an open and trustworthy attitude.
  • Information Technology - Knowledge and capability with Excel to create and manipulate tables and produce reports.

Technical Skills and Expertise

  • Is a subject matter expert in the field of Life, Critical Illness and Income Protection claims and demonstrates competence in both the breadth and depth of their technical knowledge and expertise.
  • Substantial experience of assessing complex claims across all product lines.
  • Experience of guiding and supporting others in the field of claims.
