We are looking for a Operational Buyer for a 12-month contract based in Derby on behalf of our globally respected client who develop cutting-edge technologies that deliver clean, safe and competitive solutions to meet the planet's vital power needs.

Job description - the role

The role will be working on buying parts into the Civil Aerospace engines across Civil, Marine and Defence. With the focus in 2024 moving across to transformation/ change the role will additionally be working on project procurement improvement work, compiling process maps and involvement in transitioning outsourcing activities to a 3rd party in India.

As a Operational Buyer you will be responsible for:

  • The position involves overseeing and carrying out the transactional purchasing process for products and services throughout the organisation. This includes generating purchase orders and managing purchasing activities from the request for quotation (RFQ) stage to order fulfilment for non-critical products and services.
  • In designated areas, the role is responsible for the day-to-day processing of purchase orders with partners and suppliers to ensure effective supplier relationships.
  • As part of sourcing responsibilities, the role entails initiating and advancing purchase orders within specified commodities/categories.
  • The role is accountable for ensuring compliance with company policies, processes, and procedures, maintaining accurate purchasing records in accordance with regulatory requirements.
  • In customer service, the position involves planning activities aligned with customer requirements and providing visibility of progress against plans.
  • Responsibilities also include compiling process maps, engaging in procurement-based project improvement work (such as sourcing, vendor onboarding, and invoicing), and overseeing the transition of outsourcing activities

What we require from the candidate:

Essential:

  • Procurement background with purchasing process experience; ideally with knowledge of export requirements.
  • Has a proven track record of delivering results and has experience of working within a service delivery environment.
  • Worked on continuous improvement
  • Agility to handle a number of tasks simultaneously and to prioritise effectively.
  • Capable of processing large packages of work at high levels of accuracy.
  • Global outlook and exposure to different challenges, cultures and ways of working.
  • Strong customer focus background
  • Negotiation experience
  • Planning skills
  • LEAN sigma mindset, yellow belt, green belt

Desirable

  • Ideally MCIPs qualified or equivalent.
