Our mission is to push the boundaries of complex cell analysis. Using the Lightcast platform we are working with major pharmaceutical companies and leading academic institutes. Together, using our next generation microfluidic platform, we are making advances towards new science, unique clinical approaches, new therapies and innovative products.

The Lightcast platform allows precise and highly flexible independent control of thousands of microdroplets independently and in parallel using software-generated light patterns. By combining droplets containing different cells, antibodies, cancer drugs, reporters and /or other reagents we can perform complex workflows and assays with a flexibility far beyond what is currently possible on any cell analysis platform.

About the role

We are currently in advanced stages of development of a highly innovative bio-tools instrument and continuing to grow our Manufacturing function and are now recruiting for an additional Manufacturing Engineer to join the team and bring the product to market. The successful candidate will contribute to developing a high-tech, automated in-house manufacturing process as well as developing our sub-contract manufacturing supply chain for the low/mid volume consumable. This role is based in our Manufacturing site just West of Cambridge and offers flexibility for some home working.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Own the development and implementation of the final assembly and test process of the complex consumable
  • Scale the process using light automation for quality and cost
  • Selecting new and developing existing sub-contract manufacturers for our complex low-mid volume plastics consumable
  • DFM and DFT input into the iteration of our existing product and feedback during the design and development stage of new products
  • Resolve issues, conducting formal RCA, NCR and CAPA processes alongside multidisciplinary teams including design, software and applications scientists
  • Process development, validation and mould qualification at suppliers globally
  • Ownership of test hardware and protocols throughout the supply chain
  • Monitoring and reporting key production metrics

To succeed in this role, you will be able to demonstrate some of the following:

  • Proven track record working in a Manufacturing, Process development or Supplier Quality Engineering role
  • Practical and hands-on experience developing manual and automated manufacturing processes for new complex products including jig and fixture design
  • Thorough understanding of manufacturing equipment and process validation
  • Procuring Capex equipment and installing manufacturing infrastructure
  • Experience using statistical process control (SPC) and data analysis to improve manufacturing yield and throughput
  • Experience working with contract manufacturers, preferably in precision plastic moulding processes, laser and ultrasonic welding in cleanroom environments
  • Willingness to travel globally to supplier sites, and take ownership of supplier relationships

This role will be based at our new manufacturing facility 2 miles from our head office in west Cambridge.

Lightcast Discovery offer competitive salaries and comprehensive benefits including:
