Locum Occupational Therapist - Community Stroke & Neuro-Rehabilitation Team
We are currently seeking a skilled and motivated Occupational Therapist to join our Community Stroke & Neuro-Rehabilitation Team based in the Western Isles, Scotland
- 50 per hour
- Accommodation and Ferry Paid
Initial 1 month contract likely to be extended to 3 months
The successful candidate will play a key role in providing specialised occupational therapy services to individuals recovering from stroke and neurological conditions within the community setting. This position involves working collaboratively with a multidisciplinary team to enhance the independence and quality of life of our clients.
Key Responsibilities:
Assessment and Rehabilitation Planning:
- Conduct comprehensive assessments of individuals with stroke and neurological conditions to determine their functional abilities, limitations, and rehabilitation needs.
- Develop individualized rehabilitation plans in collaboration with clients, their families, and other members of the rehabilitation team.
Occupational Therapy Interventions:
- Provide evidence-based occupational therapy interventions to address clients' physical, cognitive, and psychosocial needs.
- Implement rehabilitation strategies to enhance independence in activities of daily living (ADLs), mobility, and community integration.
Adaptive Equipment and Assistive Technology:
- Evaluate the need for and prescribe adaptive equipment and assistive technology to improve clients' independence and safety in their home environment.
- Provide training to clients and their caregivers on the use of adaptive devices.
Cognitive Rehabilitation:
- Conduct cognitive assessments and implement cognitive rehabilitation interventions to address deficits in memory, attention, and executive functioning.
- Collaborate with clients to develop compensatory strategies for managing cognitive challenges.
Community Integration:
- Work with clients to set goals related to community participation and engagement.
- Facilitate community reintegration by addressing barriers and promoting clients' confidence in navigating their environment.
Education and Support:
- Provide education and support to clients, families, and caregivers on rehabilitation strategies, coping mechanisms, and community resources.
- Collaborate with other healthcare professionals to ensure holistic care.
Progress Monitoring and Evaluation:
- Regularly assess and document clients' progress towards established goals.
- Modify rehabilitation plans based on ongoing assessments and client feedback.
Collaboration with Multidisciplinary Team:
- Work collaboratively with physiotherapists, speech therapists, nurses, social workers, and other healthcare professionals to ensure coordinated and integrated care.
- Participate in team meetings to discuss client progress and coordinate care plans.
Qualifications and Requirements:
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Occupational Therapy.
- Current registration with the relevant occupational therapy regulatory body.
- Experience in providing occupational therapy services to individuals with stroke and neurological conditions.
- Strong clinical reasoning and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team.
- Knowledge of community-based rehabilitation services and resources.
- Commitment to evidence-based practice and continuous professional development.
