Randstad Engineering are currently recruiting for a Specialist Engineer to come and work for TATA Steel in Llanwern. This is a full-time position paying 40,000 per annum on an initial 12 month contract.
The Role
This role is a key Asset Integrity role. The Engineer is responsible
for carrying out the thorough examinations of lifting equipment as obligated in the
Lifting Operations and Lifting Equipment Regulations 1998. The role enables any
lifting operation or crane movement to take place on site in a legal manner.
Accountabilities
Carrying out the thorough examination of lifting equipment and accessories as defined in
LOLER 1998 for new equipment, equipment where safety is dependent on installation, in
circumstances liable to jeopardise the safety of equipment, in line with a written scheme of
examination and/or on a 6/12 month frequency.
To identify defects in lifting equipment, with emphasis where they are or could become a
danger to persons. Where they are a danger, the asset must immediately cease operation
and stop production.
To notify the HSE when defects are found with imminent risk to personal safety - as required
by the regulations.
To check documentation and standards compliance of new lifting equipment to ensure
compliance with European Machinery Directive.
To verify lifting equipment through load testing to support thorough examination.
To support work's area investigations to identify the root cause of lifting equipment incidents
and failures.
Advise when lifting equipment incidents require reporting under RIDDOR.
The ideal candidate will -
Education -
Professional academic qualification (HNC/HND/Bachelor Degree) or extensive practical
experience
Vocational -
LEEA Entrance Certificate,

Power, Runways and Light Crane Structures,
