The Junior Automation Developer role will be part of the newly formed Scottish Government Automation Centre of Excellence (CoE) team. The CoE and the corporate shared services programme is the initial focus of this role, but the focus will widen as the portfolio of corporate transformation expands.
Corporate Transformation is a new Directorate established to increase the Scottish Government s capacity and capability to shape and deliver transformational corporate change, with impact across the wider public sector. The Directorate will bring structure and governance to the setting of priorities, and manage the delivery of many key projects and programmes.
As a Junior Automation Developer you will work on agile projects within a portfolio and develops automation solutions. You will contribute towards the development, implementation and management of AI powered automated solutions using a range of hyper automation platforms including Blue Prism, UiPath & Microsoft in support of automation initiatives across Scottish Government and the wider public sector.
You will collaborate with stakeholders and end users throughout the project lifecycle, from the identification of automation opportunities, through to the design, development, testing and maintenance of automations, employing process optimisation techniques and the use of LEAN/agile methodologies where required. You will perform the role of Process Controller to manage the day to day administration of BAU automations, provide 2nd line support in the investigation and resolution defects, and will manage change requests for automations within the IACoE s production environment. You will also be responsible overseeing 1st line support, and will peer review other people s design and development thinking, and ensure they align to the appropriate standards.

DDaT Pay Supplement
This post attracts a 5,000 per annum pro-rata DDaT Pay Supplement after a 3 month competency qualifying period. Pay supplements are temporary payments designed to address recruitment and retention issues caused by market pressures and are subject to regular review.
This is a 24 month Fixed Term Appointment.
Responsibilities
- Participate in identifying automation opportunities; employing process optimisation techniques and the use of LEAN/agile methodologies where required
- Support the design, build, testing and deployment of automation process solutions, including collecting and documenting requirements, defining process and technical solutions, prototyping, configuring digital components, and supporting stakeholders throughout the project lifecycle
- Conduct initial impact assessments on system change requests
- As Process Controller, you will maintain the daily administration of the production environment, including scheduling processes and monitoring resources, and investigate, escalate and resolve any issues identified
- Support business and technical reviews of automation performance operational and performance metrics reporting
- Develop and maintain appropriate documentation for all facets of RPA work
- Contribute to RPA development methodology and testing practices/standards, ensuring adherence to RPA/development/coding standards and naming conventions
- Contribute to best practice for the delivery of RPA solutions within the Scottish Public Sector as part of the CoE

- Experience of delivering digital solutions using Agile/Scrum and SDLC methodologies.
- Experience of using diagrams to present information to a group of stakeholders.
- Experience using data manipulation and data visualisation tools.
- An understanding of formal change control procedures and disciplines.
- Experience utilising Blue Prism, Power Automate and/or UiPath platforms
This post is based in Glasgow/ Edinburgh, with virtual and hybrid working being the current arrangement. The post will be offered on a location flexible basis, with occasional travel to Glasgow/Edinburgh.
Interview and Assessment: Interviews are expected to take place in March 2024.
Minimum Time In Post
You will be expected to remain in post for the duration of the contract unless successful at gaining promotion to a higher Band or Grade.
In the event that further posts are required, a reserve list of successful candidates will be kept for up to 12 months.
