Job Description: The Highway Design Technician role involves working with a Birmingham-based consultancy on S278 and S38 projects, primarily focusing on creating highway and junction design layouts using AutoCAD. This is a full-time, initial 8-week contract with the possibility of extension, requiring on-site work 1 to 3 days per week. Candidates are expected to provide their own equipment and software, and the position is classified as outside IR35.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Prepare technical drawings using AutoCAD
  • Conduct preliminary designs for access and basic junctions (including priority junctions, roundabouts, and signalised junctions)
  • Perform swept path analysis using AutoTrack
  • Interpret and apply highway design guidelines to inform design decisions and justifications
  • Maintain excellent communication throughout projects
  • Demonstrate strong numeracy and literacy skills

Skills Required:

  • Experience in development-focused transport planning and highways
  • Excellent communication skills and a strong work ethic
  • High attention to detail, accuracy, and the ability to work proactively and use initiative

We are actively recruiting a Highway Design Technician to join a Birmingham-based consultancy, working on S278 and S38 projects. This is an initial 8-week contract with the potential for extension, dependent on performance and workload. The role requires working on-site 1 to 3 days per week, and candidates are preferably expected to provide their own equipment and software for the duration of the contract. This is a full-time position and falls outside IR35.

We are currently looking to hire a Highways Design Technician to join our client's technical team.

Role Overview: In this role, you will primarily be responsible for creating preliminary highway and junction design layouts using AutoCAD, along with producing design drawings for car parks, bus stations, footways, and cycle routes. A strong working knowledge of AutoTrack software is also essential.
