Grants Assurance Advisor - Inside IR35

Contract Term: 6 Months

Contracting Authority: Department for Education

Location: Hybrid Coventry, Bristol, Sheffield, or London 2/3 days per week in the office

 

The Corporate Assurance Team sits within DfE s Operational Finance Directorate and is responsible for overseeing the assurance arrangements across the revenue grants landscape in the core Department.

We are the second line of defence and support the NAO with their grant s regularity audit in their role as the third line of defence.

Following an internal promotion, the team is looking to backfill an SEO Grants Assurance Adviser post for a period of 6 months to support the NAO audit and internal assurance work, both of which must be completed within a tight timeframe in order for the Department to lay accounts before Parliamentary recess in July.

 

As a Grants Assurance Advisor you will require the following:

ESSENTIAL SKILLS

  • Audit and assurance:
  • Knowledge of financial controls, audit, and assurance.
  • Ability to examine evidence against policies or standards to determine gaps, risks, and next steps.
  • Experience of checking/reconciling financial records (ideally in relation to grants).
  • Ability to support the NAO with audit queries, ensuring they receive evidence that meets their requirements.

COMMUNICATION SKILLS

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to convey complex issues clearly and unambiguously.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with colleagues across DfE and with the NAO.

ORGANISATIONAL SKILLS

  • Excellent time management and organisational skills to support delivery at pace.

DESIRABLE SKILLS

  • Grants knowledge - Understanding of Government Grant Management processes.
  • NAO audits - Experience of working with the NAO
