This key position will play a pivotal role in ensuring financial integrity, regulatory compliance, and overall adherence to financial best practices. The successful candidate will be responsible for overseeing the chart of accounts, producing annual financial statements, and serving as the authoritative point of contact for external auditors.
Your day-to-day responsibilities will include:
- Chart of Accounts Management:
- Produce and maintain the annual chart of accounts, ensuring alignment with the company's financial structure and compliance with regulatory requirements
- Financial Reporting:
- Oversee the preparation of accurate and timely financial reports and statements
- Ensure compliance with accounting standards and regulatory requirements
- Facilitate the production of the annual statement of accounts with an unqualified audit opinion
- Regulatory Compliance:
- Analyse and interpret financial regulations, keeping abreast of changes
- Ensure compliance with financial regulations, accounting standards, and government financial reporting requirements
- Maintain a robust system of internal controls
- Stakeholder Engagement:
- Serve as the technical expert on accounting practices, providing guidance to internal stakeholders
- Act as the single point of contact for external auditors, coordinating audit processes and addressing audit findings
- Engage with internal and external stakeholders, including councillors, senior management, auditors, and government agencies
- Systems and Controls:
- Collaborate with IT teams to implement and maintain appropriate IT systems supporting financial controls and reporting
- Oversee learning and development initiatives to promote regulatory adherence
- Relevant qualifications within Accounting, Finance, or a related field
- Professional qualification (eg, ACCA, CIMA, or equivalent) is highly desirable
- In-depth knowledge of legislative requirements, financial regulations, and accounting standards
- Experience in financial reporting, compliance, and internal controls
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy
- Adaptable to tight deadlines and changing regulatory frameworks
- Ability to challenge assumptions and practices that do not align with financial best practices
This role will be on a temporary basis until September.
