The Engineer provides specialised economic, effective and efficient services to the Council in delivering Flood & Coastal Erosion Risk Management (FCERM) projects, and from time-to-time may provide these services to other public sector authorities as the lead engineer.

The role provides project lifecycle delivery of complex FCERM asset replacement, renewal or new asset capital design and construction projects.

What your day-to-day will look like:

• Provide project and commercial contract management of flood risk, coastal erosion and other related projects through inception, design and construction, coordinating/leading project tasks and resources. This will involve co-ordination between various areas of the organisation and external consultants, leading procurement activities, applying project management principles, monitoring budget and spend, undertaking risk management and stakeholder engagement and ensuring consenting and licencing of activities.


• Develop effective and constructive relationships with internal and external clients, our supply chain and governing bodies whilst partnership working by providing critical thinking, robust and professional advice and value for money.


• Develop newer FCERM staff by proactively knowledge sharing and encouraging best practice across FCERM teams.


• Role model FCERM service values and behaviours and engage with the FCERM service ways of working, and the councils corporate initiatives including appropriate use of policy, procedures, systems and tools.
