Our client, who are based in London, is looking for an experienced Database Administrator/DBA, with current DV clearance to join their dynamic team. This would be a 12 month contract, starting from April 2024. The role has been assessed as Inside IR35 for the entire term of the engagement, so we will only be accepting candidates who are happy to work with an Umbrella company.

The Role:

You will be primarily responsible for the maintenance and optimization of the customer's PostgreSQL databases which is currently hosted on their AWS Cloud platform. You will also actively collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure the reliability, availability, and performance of the database, while also making valuable contributions to the overall architecture and strategic direction of the client's cloud-based database solution.

In addition to the above, the following responsibilities are also integral to the role:

  • Deploy and configure PostgreSQL database instances on AWS RDS, considering factors such as instance sizing, storage, and security.
  • Troubleshoot database-related incidents, to diagnose and rectify issues.
  • Implement and manage replication, clustering, and backup/recovery strategies to ensure high availability and disaster recovery.
  • Participate in database schema design, indexing strategies, and query optimization to ensure efficient data storage and retrieval.
  • Monitor database performance, proactively identifying and resolving performance bottlenecks, slow queries, and other issues affecting system responsiveness.
  • Implement and enforce security best practices for PostgreSQL databases, including user access controls, encryption, and data masking as needed.
  • Ensure compliance with industry standards and regulations related to data security and privacy.
  • Develop and maintain backup and recovery strategies, including regular backups, automated recovery testing, and data retention policies.
  • Develop automation scripts and tools for routine database tasks, deployments, monitoring, and scaling.
  • Maintain comprehensive documentation for database configurations, processes, and procedures.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to provide database expertise and guidance, providing training and guidance to members of the team as and when required.

The Person:

  • Currently hold active DV Clearance
  • Proven experience as a Database Administrator/DBA, with a focus on PostgreSQL database management and best practices.
  • Strong experience with AWS, particularly RDS. AWS Certifications are preferred, but not essential.
  • Proficiency in SQL, PL/pgSQL, and query optimization.
  • Experience with database performance tuning and monitoring tools.
  • Familiarity with database security practices and compliance standards.
  • Scripting and automation skills using languages like Python, Bash, JavaScript or similar.
