Data Protection Lead (Inside IR35)
Contract Term: 12 Months

The Foreign & Commonwealth Office (FCO) and the Department for International Development (DfID) merged on 1 September 2020 to form the Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office (FCDO).

As a Data Protection Lead your main responsibilities will be:
- Developing and managing data protection related policies, standards, procedures, documents and tools, consulting with the RSO Policy lead and colleagues across the RSO.
- Monitoring changes to legislation, UK GDPR and Data Protection Act interpretation, ICO guidance and enforcement updates, and assessing impacts for the RSO.
- Building and maintaining relationships with stakeholders. Providing expert advice and guidance to the organisation (including the RSO senior leadership team) on data protection issues, requirements, controls and compliance.
- Creating and maintaining appropriate staff awareness materials including guides on key data protection topics.
- Ensuring Data Protection Impact Assessments (DPIAs) are understood and applied consistently, remedial steps required are identified, recorded and actioned, and that significant data protection risks are recorded and managed.
- Ensuring privacy notices are adequate, maintained and applied appropriately.
- Ensuring adequate and effective processes are in place to handle data subject requests and complaints.
- Liaising with data protection colleagues in FCDO and other organisations as appropriate, acting as a first point of contact for all enquiries related to data protection issues.
- Engaging in data breach investigations and responding to data subjects and the Information Commissioner s Office (ICO).
You ll have relevant experience in:
- You have experience of operating within a data protection or closely related and comparable profession, have developed technical expertise and can apply it in a clear and practical way.
- You have strong analytical and critical thinking skills, using a range of information to reach sound conclusions; inviting challenge and displaying confidence when making difficult decisions.
- You communicate in a straightforward, honest and engaging manner, choosing appropriate styles to maximise understanding and impact.
- You develop, implement, maintain and review processes and services to ensure delivery of professional excellence, in line with legal, regulatory and security requirements.
- You encourage joined up team work, establishing and maintaining productive relationships with a range of stakeholders.
- Active Security Clearance.
