Our client in Wakefield is looking for an Technician to join on an intial 3 month contract. This role has a start date of the 29th of Jan, client can move quickly.
- We are seeking an experienced Lab Technician to provide configuration, testing and troubleshooting support for a newly deployed test lab infrastructure.
- The project involves the build out of a new IT Lab testing environment, and migration of all existing VMware virtual lab infrastructure to the new environment.
- The Lab technician will work alongside a Network SME and will oversee all non-network elements of this migration and assist in any related troubleshooting.
- The Lab Technician will document all VMware and Windows related configurations to be added to the run book documentation (document owned by the network SME)
- All work (excluding documentation) to be carried out in person on-site (Wakefield, UK).
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Primary:
- Installation and configuration of new VMware environment
- ESXi
- vCenter
- Antivirus endpoint installation (server and workstation)
- Failover testing of all new non-network infrastructure.
- Assist in the Windows and VMware specific configuration of network services including AD, DC, RDS, DNS & DHCP (alongside and assisted by the network SME)
- Migration and validation of testing projects
- RD Web server configuration
- Admin roles creation for server infrastructure
- VM migration activities
- Upgrade Windows 7 RDP endpoints to Windows 10
- Migrate existing Wi-Fi setup to new infrastructure (assisted by Network SME)
- Migration of existing network monitoring and automation VMs to new environment
- Connecting laptops to KVM switches
- Taking backups of all old devices to local hard drive/PC prior to migration
- Verifying hostname labelling
- Erasing all configuration info from demise list devices
EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
Must Haves
- Minimum 5 years of VMware experience (VMware certified VCP at a minimum)
- Good understanding of key networking services (mainly windows based)
- Good understanding of VMware networking
- Good understanding of Microsoft Server and desktop infrastructure and associated core enterprise services (including Active Directory, Remote Desktop, DNS and DHCP)
- Experience creating run book documentation.
